Injured Resources Addressed: Pacific Herring

Abstract: This project would provide a direct measure of Pacific herring abundance in order to monitor the recovery of the PWS herring population. This project would provide information about the survival of eggs as well as information that would assist in the interpretation of previous oil spill damage assessment results and improve the understanding of long term damage. Abundance estimates from this project would be used to set commercial harvest strategies.

Datasets:
EVOSTC Data Archive: Diver estimates of herring egg numbers in 0.1m2 quadrats. Geocoded transect locations for several types of near shore transects. Ancillary data include primary vegetation type and substrate in quadrats, physical characteristics of transect locations, and meteorological observations. Related ADFG data includes age/sex/size data and abundance. RBase databases = primary archive. Summaries and results of queries in Lotus 4.0 and Excel 5.0 Availability: All egg count data for 1984,85,88-92,94-95 are available on request. Current year data are preliminary. ASCII data files have been provided to SEADATA project for all years prior to 1995.
