Abstract: This project will study the life history and ecology of surf scoters wintering in Prince William Sound and lower Cook Inlet, and integrate this information with traditional ecological knowledge. Scoter populations in Alaska are declining for unknown reasons. Local residents harvest scoters for subsistence purposes. Scoters will be marked with surgically implanted satellite transmitters to define the breeding, molting, and wintering areas. Local participation will be solicited and information will be conveyed to local residents through the Youth Area Watch program (Project \210).Proposal: Not Available
