Project Information
Title: Status of Black Oystercatchers in PWS 98289-BAA
Project Year and Number: 1998: 98289-BAA
Other Fiscal Years and Numbers for this Project: 1999: 99289-BAA
Principal Investigator (PI): Stephen Murphy (ABR; Inc.; Environmental Research and Services)
Managing Agency: NOAA
Assisting Personnel: Todd Mabee
Research Location: Prince William Sound
Restoration Category: Research
Injured Resources Addressed: Black Oystercatchers
Abstract: Black oystercatchers currently are considered to be "injured with recovery unknown." Because most of the unresolved issues for this species pertain to impacts to the breeding population in Prince William Sound, this study is designed to assess aspects of the life history (e.g., phenology and productivity) of oystercatchers that potentially are spill-related for the same population of oystercatchers that was studied during 1989-1993. Year 1 will entail an examination of the life-history parameters that were identified by previous researchers as having been negatively impacted by the oil spill and an evaluation of whether these birds have recovered from the previously identified impacts. Data analyses will focus on comparisons of previously oiled sites with unoiled sites and among-year analyses.Proposal: Not Available
