Abstract: This project would continue examination of the effects of the large 1989 sockeye spawning overescapements on the progeny and associated foraging habitat in nursery lakes of impacted sockeye ecosystems in the spill area. Proposed studies would estimate biological attributes (number, age, size) of both resident and migrant juvenile sockeye in overescaped and normal escaped sockeye nursery lakes; investigate effects of overescapement on normal smolt production and returns; and develop a pilot research project to determine experimentally the cause of the decline and potential restorative actions. The studies would be located on Kodiak Island and the Kenai Peninsula.Proposal: Not Available
