Abstract: Numerous archaeological sites in the Prince William Sound (PWS) were impacted by the EVOS, either as a direct result of oiling or from clean-up related activities. Available evidence indicates that oil penetration impairs the ability of radiocarbon samples to yield accurate dates and that archaeologically relevant soil chemistry may be altered. Following the guidelines of the 1993 work plan, the purpose of this project will be to conduct site-specific restorative actions at injured archaeological sites on federal or state lands within the EVOS pathway. Multi- agency archaeologists will return to the sites documented during 1993 and where additional restoration was proposed. Land managing agencies will consult with the public to develop a plan for the protection of local heritage.Proposal: Not Available
