Abstract: The Stream Habitat Assessment (SHA) project (#93051) was intended to provide basic habitat information for evaluating candidate lands for the Habitat Protection process of the oil spill restoration program. Candidate lands are nominated by landowners, agencies, and the general public for additional habitat protection or acquisition using Exxon Valdez settlement funds. Habitats that are of potential importance to salmon, marbled murrelets, and harlequin ducks were surveyed and documented. Surveys intended to focus on private lands scheduled for logging or other types of major habitat alterations. Streams were surveyed after spawning had begun. Channel typing procedures to allow comparative evaluations of fish habitats were developed. Marbeled murrelet sites were examined and site characteristics of both forested and unforested areas were recorded. Information was entered into a Geographic Information System (GIS), and will be used to assist in the analysis and identification of key habitats throughout the spill-affected area. This project will close out the data analysis and mapping necessary to prepare a final project report.Proposal: Not Available
