Abstract: All of the field and laboratory work has been completed on this project. Results from 6 cruises from 1989 through 1991 are being analyzed and summarized into a final report. Preliminary results show that microbial numbers and activity in sediments are good indicators of previous exposure to hydrocarbon contamination. In addition, these measurements yield information on the mobilization of oil to deeper sediments over time. Microbial activity, even in 1991, remains high at some sites, presumably where relatively fresh oil is still present. The information collected in this project will be used in linking other NRDA studies and for prioritizing sediment hydrocarbon samples for analysis.Proposal: View (16 KB)
