Abstract: Following the EVOS, the common murre population dramatically declined in the western Gulf of Alaska area. In addition to reduced population, timing of breeding activities was delayed at the Barren Islands murre colonies. Production of chicks was almost zero in both 1989 and 1990. Data indicates that murre numbers have remained depressed since the EVOS. This project plans to count murres at breeding colonies in the Barren Islands and determine the timing of nesting events and reproductive success to evaluate recovery following the EVOS. Data will be compared with previous information from the Barren Islands and other colonies.Proposal: Not Available
