Council-funded Gulf Watch Alaska and Herring Research and Monitoring Program PIs and their research contributed to this special issue. Congratulations!
On Saturday, June 4th, the ribbon was cut on the new 5-acre Prince William Sound Science Center waterfront campus, a once-in-a-generation opportunity that will make the region and Alaska more competitive for national-level research funding, support high-wage jobs, generate new STE(A)M education opportunities, and advance industries such as mariculture, aquaculture, and commercial fishing.
A short film captures 15 months of construction in 1.5 minutes – a project made possible by nearly 150 donations (including 57 local contributions) and major donors such as the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Conoco Phillips Alaska, and Rasmuson Foundation.
The Council has awarded over $56,500,000 to PWSSC since 1992, including $23,450,000 for the construction of the new facilities.
All remaining fund balances were allocated to projects at the Trustee Council's October 13, 2021 and January 18, 2022 meetings for FY22-FY31. The encumbered funds will be released in increments annually over the remaining years of Council operations. Funds for FY24 have been released except for the remainder of project 20200135 Eagle Rock Facility Improvements and project KEN 4015 Killey River Purchase.
