Sara Taylor works in the Anchorage Office of the Secretary of the Interior, specializing in Alaska-specific laws, policies, programs, and management issues. A wildlife biology internship with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service brought her to Alaska in 2003. Prior to re-joining the Interior Department in 2018, Sara served as Senior Policy Advisor to Senator Dan Sullivan, working on public lands and natural resource issues as a member of the Senator’s Alaska-based staff.
Until its budget was vetoed in 2016, Sara was the Executive Director of the Citizens’ Advisory Commission on Federal Areas, a group of Alaskans from across the state appointed by the Governor and the Legislature to assist all Alaskans in navigating and influencing the various laws, rules, and regulations on federal lands in Alaska. Prior to staffing the Commission, she worked in the Alaska Department of Natural Resources Commissioner’s Office and as the Department’s Coordinator on the State ANILCA Implementation Team.
Sara has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences from UC Berkeley and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School. During her education, she interned and worked for six federal agencies, both as a wildlife biologist and as a law clerk. She has taught high school and college courses for over 25 years, including as an adjunct faculty member with the UAA College of Business & Public Policy.
Sara and her husband, Joe, have traveled and lived across Alaska for the last 20 years, and are happily nested with their daughter in the swampy foothills of the Chugach Mountains in Dgheyay Kaq’.
