Abstract: This project will address marine pollution derived from land-based sources and waste management practices of the remote communities of Kodiak Island. A master waste management plan developed in Phase I (Project 97304) addressed community-based sources of marine pollution and resulted in four recommended initiatives. Phase II will provide a portion of the funding needed to implement the recommendation selected by the communities as the highest priority -- Systems Development: Fixing What is There. This comprehensive initiative of systems development will provide capital improvements to existing waste management systems and will promote local responsibility.
