Executive Director Recommendation: Fund Contingent

Executive Director Comments: Fund contingent on final review and approval of a Detailed Project Description and budget, including review by the Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council, the Cook Inlet Regional Citizens' Advisory Council, and the Sensitive Areas Work Group. Two workshops, sponsored by the Trustee Council in January and April 2002, indicate that there is still much work to be done in developing a comprehensive nearshore monitoring program for the GEM region. However, there was clear consensus that additional shoreline mapping is necessary, no matter how the GEM program develops further. This project will conduct aerial video mapping of the northern coastal areas of Afognak and Kodiak islands at extremely low tides. The Trustee Council has determined that long-term monitoring of the spill area has restoration benefit and is consistent with the Restoration Plan. The shoreline mapping that will be conducted under this project will provide the information necessary to decide which specific sites in the nearshore to monitor under GEM. [Note: Funds for this project were approved by the Trustee Council on April 18, 2002.]
