Marine Derived Nutrients Quarterly Tasks

2005 Quarterly Project Tasks:

1st Quarter Tasks (October 1, 2004 - December 31, 2004)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

October-December: Data analysis

Progress report:

Project Manager update (2/8/05): First quarter objective has been met. Stable isotope analyses for the first round of sampling were completed this quarter. The third round of food web sampling to assess the MDN inputs resulting from the fall coho run was completed. Fatty acid and lipid analyses of macroinvertebrates and fish are ongoing, and will be reported in the next quarterly report. Water chemistry analysis is also complete. Final algae sampling for the season was completed in early October. High water conditions prevented subsequent algae sampling. Preparations were made to present a poster on the project's findings to date at the Marine Science Symposium.

2nd Quarter Tasks (January 1, 2005 - March 31, 2005)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

January - February: Workshop in Homer to dicuss results of year one, and approach for year two. Selection of additional watersheds for sampling in year two. March: Coordinate/communicate with other proposed MDN research in Kenai River and Prince William Sound. Prepare for sampling.

Progress report:

Second quarter objectives have been met. All three project PI's, along with Daniel Rinella, PhD graduate student working on the project, and ADF&G Sport Fish research coordinator, Bob Clark and biometrician Pat Hansen, met in Anchorage to discuss expansion of the sampling design for year two (FY05). The new design has been incorporated into a field operation plan, which is currently under review. We will include the completed operation plan with our next progress report.

3rd Quarter Tasks (April 1, 2005 - June 30, 2005)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

April - September: Sampling on treatment an docntrol watersheds. Annual report preparation.

Progress report:

Third quarter objectives have been met. In addition they began sampling in mid May and completed the first round of sampling on all nine streams on July 8.

4th Quarter Tasks (July 1, 2005 - September 30, 2005)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

Sampling on treatment and control watersheds. Prepare and submit annual report.

Progress report:

Fourth quarter objectives were met.
