Pigeon Guillemot Restoration Quarterly Tasks

2009 Quarterly Project Tasks:

1st Quarter Tasks (October 1, 2008 - December 31, 2008)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

Enter, analyze, and interpret field data. Conduct laboratory analyses of newly collected mink genetic samples.

Progress report:

Completed.

2nd Quarter Tasks (January 1, 2009 - March 31, 2009)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

Attend annual Marine Science Symposium and present results to peer reviewers.

Progress report:

PI attended the Symposium and presented a poster.

3rd Quarter Tasks (April 1, 2009 - June 30, 2009)
Status: Complete

Tasks to be performed:

Trap mink in PWS for tissue samples to conduct genetics analyses (March) Present to the Trustee Council preliminary recommendations for possible direct restoration actions for guillemots on the Naked Island Archipelago.

Progress report:

Enough samples were obtained from last year's fieldwork so that no additional tissue samples were collected in March 2009. PI recommends that all mink be removed from the Naked Island archipelago because of their predatory impact on the pigeon guillemots.

4th Quarter Tasks (July 1, 2009 - September 30, 2009)
Status: Rescheduled

Tasks to be performed:

Conduct laboratory analyses of newly collected mink genetic samples. Complete MS thesis analysis and writing.

Progress report:

N/A because no additional mink genetic samples were collected during 2009. MS thesis underway, but delayed due to personal problems, and will likely be pushed back one semester.
